Déjà Vu X 7.5 improves the previous version in various ways. The new main features are:

Full support for Windows Vista

Déjà Vu X 7.5 can be used with Windows Vista. Déjà Vu X 7.5 has been successfully tested with the official versions of Microsoft's new operating system.

Support for the new Office 2007 XML based formats

With Microsoft Office 2007 Open XML filter, Déjà Vu X 7.5 can import and export all the new file types offered in Office 2007:

In addition, the new filter can import files with embedded objects. This way, the text both from the file and from inserted Microsoft Office objects will be extracted and this will allow translators to focus exclusively on the text.

Since the Office 2007 filter works on top of Déjà Vu X 7.5’s existing SGML/XML filter, you can also customize the filter using the built-in SGML/XML filter editor in Déjà Vu X.

Support for Adobe InDesign CS2 INX (InDesign Interchange)

Using Déjà Vu X 7.5 you can translate InDesign CS2 documents with the new filter for importing InDesign Interchange (inx) files. These files, which are XML-based, are produced in InDesign CS2 from the File>Export... menu and selecting InDesign Interchange format. Once you have finished translating the files, you can export them so that the exported files can be opened with InDesign CS2 and save them using the same format used by the original documents.

Since InDesign CS2 can open files from previous InDesign versions, now you can also work with those files in Déjà Vu X without having to export stories from InDesign documents into Tagged Text files.

Since the Adobe InDesign CS2 filter works on top of Déjà Vu X 7.5’s existing SGML/XML filter, you can also customize the filter using the built-in SGML/XML filter editor in Déjà Vu X.

Support for OpenOffice 2.0 (OpenDocument)

Déjà Vu X 7.5 includes an updated filter for OpenOffice 2.0 documents. Although it is not yet a widespread format, Déjà Vu X 7.5 offers translators the opportunity to work with the documents generated by the leading open-source office package. The types of files which can be imported using this filter are the following:

The new filter for OpenOffice 2.0, like the filter for Office 2007, can import files with embedded objects. This way, Déjà Vu X will extract the text both from the file and from the inserted objects.

Once the file is translated, you can export the file into a new document with the same format as the original one. When exporting the file, you can select the Force update of embedded objects option, which will force the inserted objects to show directly in the translated text in the final document.

Since the OpenOffice 2.0 filter works on top of Déjà Vu X 7.5’s existing SGML/XML filter, you can also customize the filter using the built-in SGML/XML filter editor in Déjà Vu X.

Support for RESX (.NET Resources)

With the RESX filter, now it is possible to translate user interfaces of those programs which have been implemented under Microsoft's .NET platform.

Since files in RESX format can include other objects besides text, Déjà Vu X 7.5 offers the option to filter those objects so that they do not appear alongside the text requiring translation. In order to do so, you can select one of the two following options: Exclude strings heuristically, which prevents the non-textual information from being extracted, or Lock strings heuristically which imports non-textual information but automatically locks it so it will no be accidentally overwritten.

Once the file has been translated, you can export the file and produce a file with the RESX format containing the translated text.

Since the RESX filter works on top of Déjà Vu X 7.5’s existing SGML/XML filter, you can also customize the filter using the built-in SGML/XML filter editor in Déjà Vu X.

Export projects (External View) to Trados RTF format

Using Déjà Vu X 7.5 you can export Déjà Vu X projects to Trados RTF format, so that translators using Trados can work with that tool.

Once you have created your project, you can generate an External view of the project at any time from the File>Export>External View... menu and then selecting Trados RTF format. The options Export locked segments as XTranslated and Export guaranteed segments as XTranslated are also included.

Once the other translator using Trados has finished translating the External view, it can be imported back into Déjà Vu X by filling in the target segments according to the translations in the External view.

Support for SDLX ITD files (in projects)

The new SDLX ITD filter in Déjà Vu X 7.5 allows translators to work with ITD files from SDLX. This gives you the advantage of processing multiple ITD files together from within a single Déjà Vu X project.

Importing SDLX translation memories

A new filter for importing SDLX translation memories has been developed. This new feature, along with the new filter for SDLX ITD files, will allow translators to transfer all the translation work carried out in SDLX into Déjà Vu X and enjoy a better, more friendly and intuitive working environment.

In order to import an SDLX translation memory, open a translation memory in Déjà Vu X and select File>Import>File or database... With the help of the wizard, select the SDLX TM format and follow the steps indicated by the wizard until you finish the import process.

Importing MultiTerm termbases

Using Déjà Vu X 7.5 you will be able to import terminology databases created with Trados MultiTerm. Now you will be able to reuse in Déjà Vu X all the terminology work developed with Trados.

In order to import these memories, the TXT from MultiTerm must have been exported using MultiTerm's "Backup" template. Once you have correctly exported the MultiTerm memory, if you want to import it into Déjà Vu X, just open a terminology database in Déjà Vu X and select File>Import>File or database... With the help of the wizard, select the MultiTerm 5.5 format and follow the steps indicated by the wizard until you finish the import process.

Configurable reversal of Translation Memories

In many cases, Déjà Vu X’s existing automatic reversal of translation memory data is extremely useful; however, there are some scenarios where, particularly when reusing previous translations provided third parties, you may find that the quality of the translation in one direction is acceptable, but in the reverse direction it is next to useless. In situations like these, you can instruct Déjà Vu X to only use translations in the direction in which they were originally added to the translation memory.

To do this, simply open the project properties window, select the Databases tab, and use the Reverse checkboxes in the list of translation memories.

"Remove Duplicate Entries" feature

When importing data into a Translation Memory or a Terminology Database, Déjà Vu X will, by default, check that no duplicate entries are added. What this means is that, before writing an entry into the Translation Memory or Terminology Database, it will search for an existing match and, if it exists, it will not add the new entry. In most cases, these checks can be quite complex (especially in a Terminology Database, where Déjà Vu X has to make sure that all the relations and attributes are the same) and are therefore likely to slow down the import process. There are many situations in which the user is not interested in filtering out duplicates while importing (for example, when importing data into a brand new Translation Memory or Terminology Database), so turning off the duplicate check mechanism can speed up the import process considerably.

With this in mind, we have added a new option to both the Translation Memory and the Terminology Database import wizards called Remove duplicate entries, which can be checked or unchecked depending on whether or not the user wants to prevent adding duplicate entries to the database.

Installation requirements

As part of our support for Windows Vista in Déjà Vu X 7.5, we are including a new version of the dongle drivers, both for 32 bit (x86) and 64 bit (x64) editions of Windows.

The new dongle drivers required some changes in Déjà Vu X 7.5 which make it incompatible with previous versions of the drivers, so if you are using Déjà Vu X with a dongle, you must update the dongle drivers to the latest version. In order to update them correctly, follow these steps:
